Gild Leaders’ Community of the Ardens

Arden House is located in the midst of an historic 450-acre protected estate, situated within 40 miles of Midtown Manhattan. This unique cultural, historical and environmental asset features breathtaking views, rolling woodlands, a private 125-acre lake and a 100,000+ square foot mansion.

In addition to the theater, a strong arts and crafts culture characterizes this community. Many of the houses on the estate feature elements from this movement, which was a reaction to industrialization and valued hand-crafted goods, as well as the incorporation of personal style into a home. The Arts and Crafts Movement continues to inspire today’s craftspeople. The Arden Craft Shop Museum is located at 1807 Millers Road and open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

The woods surrounding the village are a tranquil retreat for hikers, runners and horseback riders. They are maintained by volunteers, who gather for annual woods cleanups and ivy “pulls.” The Arden Forest Committee has a page on this website and also maintains a public Facebook page, Forests of the Ardens.

This community is a walker’s paradise and is very bikeable. It is also close to public transportation with 86 Street (4,5,6 Line) only 0.9 miles away and John F. Kennedy International Airport at 17.7 miles or 29 minutes.

This community is volunteer driven and is proud of its history of outstanding service to the region. Volunteers are recruited during the spring and summer for various positions at the Fair. Many of these volunteers return year after year. The Board of Directors and Gild Leaders are grateful to all the wonderful volunteers for their efforts at the Fair.
