How to Make a Seashell Necklace

A Seashell necklace is an eye-catching accessory that instantly draws attention to your outfit. It can be used to make a statement, evoke a sense of nostalgia, highlight your natural beauty or simply add elegance and sophistication to your look. Whether you’re going to a formal event or just running errands, the right necklace can help boost your confidence and style.

This unique shell jewelry art is made from seashells collected along the coast of Hood Canal in Washington state where the artist and her studio reside. They are transformed through a series of process intensive steps including cleaning, water drilling, fine paper imagery (often her own creature and nature paintings), trim and findings. Then they are sealed with multiple layers of medium to impart a refined porcelain feel and finish with a delicate liquid gold or silver leaf edging.

Choose your focal point shells. Usually, it’s best to balance large and small shells. For example, if you have a large shell on one side of the necklace, consider adding two or three smaller shells to the other side of the design. Next, add your smaller shells and a coordinating jump ring to each. Repeat with the other large shell, using a larger jump ring to attach it to your chain or cord. On each end of the necklace, use a metal crimp to secure the cord or chain. Make sure to use pliers to firmly crimp the crimp in place. Seashell necklace
